Leaders in Training Internship

PSESD's high school internships began in the 2015-16 school year to engage young people in the Agency's Strategic Design process. The program grew from two departments and four interns to eleven departments and twenty-two interns in 2018-19. We are relaunching LIT following virtual internships during COVID-related closures in 2022, and we are excited about hosting ten youth.

Each internship pays $15/hour and a minimum of $1,200. A range of PSESD departments have hosted LIT interns, including the Washington State Risk Management Pool, the Puget Sound College and Career Network, Communications, Strategy, Evaluation and Learning, Early Warning Systems, and Expanded Learning and Equity in Education.

"I met new and amazing people who lived in different cities, went to different schools, and had different ethnic backgrounds from me. Not all of us had the same school experiences. It is important for the PSESD to have diverse interns, students, and staff because decision-makers need to hear from multiple voices and perspectives to make effective change." - LIT Participant
